ISPS code doubts at Paranaguá
06 May 2008
Questions are being raised as to whether the Brazilian port of Paranaguá is abiding by security measures contained within the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code.
This follows a recent incident when protesting port workers were able to break into the grain storage silo and also disrupt operation of shiploaders.
Local businesses are calling for an urgent tightening of security else the port risks being placed on a quarantine list, which will adversely affect calls by shipping lines.
