San Antonio maps out future
01 Nov 2006
Chile's leading container hub, San Antonio, has released its Master Plan governing future development. The aim is to convert the port into a future logistics platform, which will make it the leading facility of its kind in South America.
By 2020, it plans to increase the Molo Sur area by adding a further 900 metres of linear quay. In addition, another new area should extend the port by a further 1,000 metres. This will eventually allow six post-panamax containerships to be accommodated simultaneously.
A second phase development plan will kick in from 2020, which envisages boosting the berthing line of the port by a further 3,140 metres, thereby equipping it with a capacity in the region of 7m teu/year.
