SHORTLIST GO HEAD-TO-HEAD FOR DPW’S US TERMINALS
01 Nov 2006
The shortlist of US companies in the running to take over terminal facilities currently owned by DP World now numbers five to eight.
Initially, around 100 companies expressed an interest in port operations based in New York, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Miami, Baltimore and New Orleans.
It will now take around six months before the Dubai-based group will be able to dispose of those assets. Among those bidding are infrastructure funds, private equity houses and ‘strategic bidders’, all of which have US-based parent companies, although several are bidding with overseas minority partners. Despite the loss of its US assets, DPW is due to boost its global container handling capacity from 46.5m teu to 70m teu within the next few years.
