Six in the frame at Karachi
01 Nov 2006
PSA International, APM Terminals and DP World are the three highest profile bidders for the new deepwater container port project due for construction at Karachi. This new facility will be built at Keamari Groyne. Three other companies are also apparently still in the running.
The initial phase of the port, for which expressions of interest were invited in August, will encompass the construction of four berths, allowing ships drawing up to 18 metres of water to dock. The concessionaire will be expected to contribute to the $550m cost involved, although the port authority will likely match funding.
