Box terminal concession for new Karachi port

Karachi Port Trust has asked for companies to submit pre-qualification applications to finance, build and operate the first four-berth container terminal at its new Deep Water Container Port.
An award is expected to be made within the next six months for the facility, which will have 1,500 metres of quay and alongside water depth of 18 metres.
The terminal will have a 650,000 sq m backup area and will be capable of handling annual throughput of 1.5m teu. The project, which will be taken forward in two phases, will be initially opened within the next two and a half years.
