Chinese companies flirt with Las Palmas

China Shipping Container Lines and Cosco Container Lines, as well as the stevedoring company Sekou Terminals, have indicated a willingness to make use of the Spanish port of Las Palmas, which currently handles significant amounts of transhipment traffic from its location in the Canary Islands Peninsula.

China Shipping, which first began speaking to the port authority in 2004, wants to use facilities on the island to undertake transhipment between Africa, Europe and Latin America.
