Cautious curiosity

Questions are being asked, but many ports are still not serious about building facilities to support automation, reports David Foxwell

Providers of Terminal Operating Systems such as Navis and ESC say they are experiencing a high level of demand for TOS, from nearly every major industrial region and customer but, Navis notes, much of this interest currently takes the form of 'curiosity' and high level feasibility. "Only a few customers have really gone to the next step of TOS automation or are serious about building facilities to support automation, " says a spokesperson for Navis.
