SSA Marine switches to ethanol
01 Apr 2007
SSA Marine has introduced a programme to reduce noise emissions from handling equipment at container terminals where it operates.
A pilot programme has been introduced at Terminal A in Long Beach, where diesel fuel has been replaced by ethanol. This will lead to a 77% reduction in nitrogen oxide and one of 93% in the emission of particulates.
The US Environmental Protection Agency has specified that these levels must be achieved by 2010.
