Plans advance for Vallarpadam

DP World, container handler at the Indian port of Cochin, has submitted plans to the port authority for the proposed Vallarpadam transhipment terminal.

Royal Haskoning prepared the initial drawings on behalf of DP World, which believes that the initial phase of the project should be commissioned no later than April 2009.

This first phase will require investment of $200m and result in the creation of the terminal capable of handling 1m teu. This will involve the construction of 600 metres of quay and 30 hectares of backup land. Quayside lift will consist of six super-post-panamax quayside gantry cranes.
