HPH denies Auckland approach

Hutchison Port Holdings (HPH) did not recently make a formal bid for a stake in Ports of Auckland, Auckland Regional Holdings (ARH) chairperson Judith Bassett has said.

Speculation had recently arisen that HPH made such a bid after it was blocked in its efforts to achieve a stake in Lyttelton Port of Christchurch in 2006.
With two Kiwis high up in HPH management, Ms Bassett suggests the
speculation may have arisen from informal calls the pair make to local
industry when visiting home.
