Costa Rica seeks hub status
01 Jan 2007
The government of Costa Rica is to offer as a concession the construction of a major container hub at Moín, 10km from Limón. With an estimated cost of $500m, the new facility will take five years to complete, thereafter being able to accommodate the world's largest container ships.
Existing port structures at both Moín and Limón on the Caribbean coast could also be upgraded at a cost of $70m, with a subsequent transfer to a private sector operator as a concession. This work has the blessing of the World Bank, which may help finance the projects.
