Jade solution reduces data entering time
01 Jun 2007
New Zealand’s Jade Software has recently been responsible for a wholesale IT revamp at Port Nelson, which included the replacement of the port’s outdated radio data terminals with a new solution using a 3G network, ruggedised laptops and a customised user interface.
The objective was improved functionality and flexibility, coupled with easier use for the forklift drivers. An Itronix laptop, mounted on a stable platform inside each forklift cab, contains a CDMA card connected to its GPS antenna, which allows the driver real-time access via a touch screen to the Jade Cargo Management Database. The driver can quickly receive notifications of jobs, change the status of a container, move it in the database, manage tasks and search the database, all from inside the cab.
Port Nelson says that as a result its drivers spend 50 less time entering data, giving them more time, of course, to concentrate on driving. Meanwhile, from a management perspective, all driver activities are now recorded.
