Ecuadorians fear competition from outsiders

Small port terminal operators in Ecuador are somewhat worried by the emergence of major port development projects, such as Manta and Posorja.
As a result, several of them are contemplating pooling their resources in order to make new investment.
At present, this is not legally possible, since shareholders in one port company are not allowed to invest in a second. However, the local trade association has pointed out that a change in the law is required, if the smaller operators are to continue to survive.
