Salalah plans massive expansion

The Port of Salalah is to increase capacity by more than 200% over the next seven years according to its new master plan. Berth 5 is due to come online by the second quarter of this year and Berth 6 by the first quarter of 2008.These will add 969 metres of quay and 2m teu capacity.
The new berths will allow the port to handle an additional 1.76m teu per annum and will take the total capacity at the port to approximately 4.5m teu. Once the plan is fully implemented, Salalah will have a total of 2,205 metres of quay. For the past couple of years, the Port of Salalah has been operating at near optimum capacity on the back on extraordinary growth in world container trade.
