Georgia guarantees space to expand
03 Nov 2007
Georgia Ports Authority has secured 175 acres of prime river-frontage land close to its Ocean Terminal, providing it with ample space to expand in the future.
The purchase of the land with rail and highway access and 3,700 feet of frontage on the Savannah River gives the GPA an edge over space-constrained ports on the US east coast.
Said Doug J Marchand, GPA’s executive director. “More than a decade ago the Authority identified the Hutchinson Island property for future port expansion.
“The additional acreage, along with significant capacity expansion capabilities at GPA’s Garden City Terminal, ensures Georgia’s ability to attract and retain additional cargo at current growth levels,” said Steve Green, GPA’s Chairman of the Board. “Today’s announcement guarantees GPA will remain a significant economic engine for the State of Georgia for many years to come.”
