Colombo swamped by containers

The Sri Lankan Port of Colombo desperately needs to move to 24-hour operation on a permanent basis to bring levels of efficiency up to its hub port status, claims the national exporters association.
Congestion at Colombo is forcing shippers to look elsewhere
Long delays and security concerns have already prompted some shipping lines to divert operations to other ports, making it difficult for some shippers to obtain space on ships to either Europe or the Far East.
Rates are also much too high currently, claim the exporters.
