Port-Net II on the cards

Participants in European ports initiative Port-Net have called for a “more practical” second programme as the first draws to a close.

With partners from 12 European countries and Russia, the objective of the European Union Interreg IIIC Network project has been to identify and tackle the main challenges faced by European ports in order to create better operational structures and capacities as well as to achieve the best possible regional integration of ports.

Manfred Reuter, director of international affairs at Hamburg Port Authority (HPA) – lead partner in the two-year Port-Net project – made the call for Port-Net II at the closing conference of the initiative.

However, he emphasised that while the 18 Port-Net partners and their associates have learned a lot over the past two years, Port-Net II should not be a copy of the initial project and should produce more real output.
