Hyster extends stacker reach
11 Oct 2007
Earlier this year, Hyster’s Big Truck Division at Nijmegen in The Netherlands unveiled eight additional models in its RS Series reachstackers, expanding the range, which was introduced in September 2006, from six to a total of 14 models.
The new RS series now includes a number of models aimed at the container handling and intermodal handling markets, including the RS 45-27 CH, RS 45-31 CH and RS 46-36 CH container handling reachstackers and RS 45-24 IH, RS 45-28 IH and RS 46-33 IH ‘combi-handlers’ for containers and swap-bodies/trailers, which are all intermodal models. More new models are also being developed, some of which feature a front stabiliser and/or a longer wheelbase to facilitate applications such as third container row handling.
The front mounted stabiliser provides an increased lifting capacity, when the truck is stationary. Hyster says it believes that this higher capacity will be particularly useful for occasional handling of containers from a third container row, or to handle containers or swap-bodies at a ‘second rail’ position. The stabiliser protrudes only 100mm in front of the tyres, so ‘lost load’ distance is minimised.
