Privatisation positive for Nigerian port

The privatisation of Nigeria's container terminals, which took place 12 months ago, has reduced the turnaround time for vessels.
Previously, some vessels could wait up to 25 days at the outer anchorage, resulting in significant congestion surcharges. Nowadays, these have mostly been eliminated.
Still to be addressed is the problem of customs clearance, which requires 13 different sets of documents; it can take up to 30 days before a box is released to importers.
