Babcock & Brown on the offensive
08 Oct 2007
Babcock & Brown Infrastructure (BBI) has rejected criticism from Queensland premier Peter Beattie describing Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal (DBCT) as the “worst port” in the state.
Mr Beattie told a business summit that he was “an idiot” for selling DBCT on a 99-year lease in 2001, with the idea of having a private port competing with Government-owned ports.
BBI said the comments seemed “totally out of place”.
Many industry observers believe the reasons for congestion are complex, including increased demand for coal and the failure of rail to match port capacity.
