Guatemala to upgrade ports
01 Sep 2007
Guatemala has set up an interparliamentary commission to look into the modernisation of its ports. Santo Tomás de Castilla, Quetzál and San José all need to be expanded to be able to accommodate larger vessels.
EPQ, which operates Quetzál, will issue two tenders during the third quarter in respect of planned expansion work, once feasibility studies have been completed.
A 610 metre long quay is to be built at a cost of $70m and associated dredging work will cost an additional $20m.
