Gdynia works to enhance port
09 Apr 2008
The Polish port of Gdynia is to invest about €170m ($258.6m) between now and 2010 on a series of five enhancement schemes.
Authorities plan to construct a new ferry terminal and roads and railways serving it; develop unitised cargo handling systems, improve ship safety and increase draught to 13.5m; create a 40 ha Logistics Centre; and develop a ro-ro terminal.
Meanwhile, the port has completed work to upgrade its historic grain elevator, which has been ongoing since September 2004. It’s been a tortuous process because the 1937 building is listed, and the Baltic Terminal continued to import grain during the work. The work has doubled the capacity of the storage facility to 52,000 tonnes.
