Auckland tackles carbon footprint
18 Jul 2008
An inventory audited by PricewaterhouseCoopers of the Port of Auckland’s total greenhouse gas emissions has provided a solid foundation for further work by the company to manage its carbon footprint.
Technological and operational initiatives have been introduced over recent years, including an upgrade of the port’s floodlighting, reducing energy consumption by approximately 15%.
The purchase of 35 new hybrid diesel-electric straddle carriers over the last three years, the introduction of a vehicle booking system in 2007 and the recent introduction of a fuel-monitoring system have all contributed to the port's green goals.
