Review: International Terminal Operators

A foot in every camp

During the past 12 months, APM Terminals has opened major facilities at Tangier in Morocco, at Portsmouth,Virginia, and at Guangzhou, at the mouth of the Pearl River.

“During this timeframe we have also begun operations at existing facilities in Luanda, Angola; started a port project at Posorja, Ecaudor; and added operations at Pecém, Brazil,” says APM corporate communications director Tom Boyd.

“More recently, APM Terminals was named the preferred bidder for a new container facility in Vancouver, and construction was started on a new terminal in Cai Mep, Vietnam.”

Mr Boyd says APM is particularly proud of its Virginia facility, the largest privately-owned container terminal in the US, for its “precedent-setting environmental considerations, which we plan to expand upon in future projects”.

Africa will be an area of future growth for APM Terminals, says Mr Boyd, with the focus this year on the formal commissioning of the Apapa Container Terminal in Nigeria, after extensive renovation and refitting over the past year.
