China Container Industry Association has predicted that world demand for containers could drop by 10% to 20% if another economic crisis emerges this year.
China is concerned about dropping US box throughput
It adds that the situation in the US is particularly worrying, with throughput expected to be lower than that of 2007.
This is based on figures released on March, which showed that US ports handled 4.8% fewer containers than in the previous month. Compared with the corresponding period in 2007, the decrease was 8.5%.
