Dublin expansion challenges environmentally-protected area
28 May 2008
Ireland’s Department of the Environment has issued a special protection order increasing the area it protects in Dublin Bay by 30%.
Despite this, Dublin Port Company intends to go ahead with massive expansion plans, which consist of land reclamation work within the protected zone.
The decision to expand the environmental area is the result of a finding by the European Union Court of Justice that Ireland was not taking sufficient measures to protect wildlife in the Bay.
