New Vietnam port takes shape

Work on new $62m Vietnam port jointly developed by forwarding company Gemadept (51%) and steel sheet manufacturer Hoa Sen Group (45%) is to start in April.
The port, in the Cai Mep-Thi Vai port area, will cover 70,000 sq m with a single 300 metre long berth capable of handling ships of up to 50,000 tonnes.
The 2m tonne capacity Phase 1 will be operational by 2010; capacity will double as part of a subsequent phase of development.
