Tangier terminal on the rise
10 May 2008
APM Terminals Tangier is ramping-up operations at the new container port and transhipment hub at the mouth of the Mediterranean Sea.
Etienne Rocher, managing director of APM Tangier, said recently that performance levels at the port "already compare with those of longer-established, fully operational terminals". She added that it was a remarkable achievement, which rested on an almost totally local team.
In March, APM Terminals Tangier took delivery of its last three super post panamax ship-to-shore cranes from Chinese-based Shanghai Zhenhua Port Machinery (ZPMC). The remaining 11 Eco-RTGs on order for the terminal are scheduled for delivery by the end of May.
In April, ZPMC and APM Terminals finalised a framework for the supply of rubber-tyred gantry cranes for the expansion of the worldwide APM network. APM has already purchased more than 200 cranes from the Shanghai-based manufacturer.
