Paraguay ports clogged
27 May 2008
A weak dollar and increasing water levels on the Paraguay River have resulted in its ports becoming increasingly congested in recent months.
In 2007, exports from ports in Paraguay totalled $5.2m, while imports reached $3.25m; in the first two months of the current year imports have risen by a staggering 55%.
The barge fleet now working the river totals 1,200 units, plus an additional 150 tugs.
