Ecodrive your way to energy savings
09 Oct 2008
According to an International Transport Forum study published in May, ecodriving has become a key element of national strategies to reduce CO2 emissions in a number of countries.
The report affirmed the potential savings of up to 10% for surface transport emissions.
In‐car equipment such as gear shift indicators, cruise controls and on‐board computers giving feedback on fuel consumption help improve fuel economy, while checking tyre pressures frequently can also help reduce fuel consumption.
A tyre with pressure that is 25% lower than the manufacturer’s stated pressure increases rolling resistance by 10% and fuel consumption by 2%.
Indeed, the Copenhagen-Malmo Port, which has educated its drivers to operate their cargo handling vehicles more efficiently through the Ecodriven Programme, has noted a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, noise levels and accident rates, together with a 20% reduction in diesel consumption.
