Oz port congestion improves

The Simpson, Spence and Young Australian Coal Port Congestion Index has dropped to 7.1 days, the lowest it has been since October 2006.

For the first half of 2008 overall, the index registered 13.7 days, which compares with the 22.9 days reported 12 months ago.

Despite this, projections are for the number of vessels awaiting at anchor to increase during the rest of the year and for the price of thermal coal to continue rising.
