Historic London Gateway takes shape
London Gateway will be the largest development within the Port of London for more than a century
DP is starting work on the biggest development within the Port of London for more than 100 years. The 1,500 acre London Gateway will combine a fully automated deepwater container terminal and Europe's largest logistics park.
The port will be built in phases to provide a total 2,700 metres of container quay with depth alongside of 17 metres, with total 3.5m teu handling capacity when complete.
A £400m contract for the first phase of the London Gateway has been awarded to a consortium led by Laing O'Rourke and Dredging International. This involves dredging sections totalling about 40 kms along a 100 km channel and using the dredged material for land reclamation and constructing three berths - 1,255 metres of quay.
DP plans to invest more than £1.5bn in the London Gateway over a 10-15 year period.
