GreenPorts congress tackles sustainability
Hamburg Port Authority will host the GreenPorts Congress in September
Hamburg will play host to this year’s 6th GreenPort Congress, where port industry, academia and policy-making executives will meet to learn about and discuss the latest in sustainable environmental practice.
The Hamburg Port Authority-hosted event will take place at the Hotel Atlantic Kempinski from September 14-15 with support from ESPO, EFIP, ECOPORTS and the European Shippers' Council.
The programme itself promises a broad range of topics, from defining the 'Green Port' concept and community relations management, to adapting ports to climate change and the greening of ports and the logistics chain. A closing session discussion on greenhouse gas emissions promises a lively and on-topic debate.
“The GreenPort Congress will provide decision makers with a meeting place to both learn about and discuss the latest in sustainable environmental practice that will enable them to effectively implement these changes,” according to organiser Mercator Media, publisher of Port Strategy.
“The emphasis of the Congress will be on highlighting innovation in equipment and technology whilst illustrating practical solutions through case studies.”
Prior to the Congress, the inaugural GreenPort Cruise Conference will take place on September 13, also at the Hotel Atlantic Kempinski, and will include sessions on environmental certification and sustainable tourism, among other topics.
Held in association with Cruise Gateway and supported by the European Cruise Council, conference delegates will also be able to participate in a practical on-site technical visit as part of the programme. A closing conference discussion session will debate the tasks and challenges of cruise ports for short- and long-term strategies.
