Job Description:
Our Ports & Maritime team focuses on feasibility studies, planning, and engineering design of ports, harbours, marine terminals and waterfront developments. Recently, they have been working on projects such as Moin Container Terminal in Costa Rica, Dubai Water Canal in the UAE and Tortue LNG Terminal project in Senegal and Mauritania.

As a 1-year placement intern working within Ports & Maritime at our Swindon office , you will be assisting other engineers on port, maritime and coastal engineering projects and will learn from the experience gained. This may involve assisting in preparation of drawings, calculations, various project documentations and possibly attending project sites and assisting in surveys and site inspections. The learning of the student is as important as the work undertaken on projects, plus the long-term goal to recruit the person as a full-time employee following completion of university studies. The minimum qualifications for this position are:

Enrolled in a suitable civil engineering degree and can demonstrate good grades to date.

A degree with some modules focused on port and maritime engineering would be an advantage.

Strong interest in ports, maritime and coastal engineering design, with ambition to have a long-term career in this field.

We expect our candidates to be expecting to graduate with a minimum 2.1 or merit Masters degree.

Basic understanding of design methods and calculations, design drawings and technical report writing.

Awareness of professional development and a keen interest to become Chartered in the future.

Student member of the UK Institution of Civil Engineers (or similar) would be an advantage. Prior work experience in similar field (part-time, summer placements, etc.) may also be considered as an advantage. 
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience:

Confident in communication with high level of verbal and written English

High motivation to join CH2M Commitment and motivation to participate and learn

Effective team player

Good personal planning and organization

High level of competency in the use of standard office software applications

Knowledge of some of the software used in the industry for structural analysis, coastal engineering design, numerical modelling and the like would be an advantage.
