Group Local Port Service Operator

Applicants are invited to apply for the Group LPS Operator vacancy within the Marine Department, based at the Port of Liverpool. Some travel may be involved for training. There are multiple positions available.

Role Purpose: To deliver a Local Port Service for Peel Ports safety within Clydeport, Ardrossan and Heysham. This will include the coordination of services within the port community by dissemination of port and berth information to vessels or terminal operators.

This role will include the following responsibilities:

-Respond to VHF communication from vessels within assigned areas of responsibility
-Ensure that all adopted standard operating procedures and relevant port regulations are adhered to
-Maintain electronic records of vessel movements using specialist IT systems
-Support group incident management
-Provide a medium for liaison between vessels, tugs, stevedores and/or allied services
-Provide a basis for implementing port emergency plans including participation in emergency exercises
-Assist with the management of the ports by the supply of information on berth and port conditions
-Operate from isolated fall back locations when required

Applicants interested in this role should ideally possess the following skills and experience:

-Able to understand and apply geographic and technical information
-Confident computer skills including the use of Microsoft Office packages
-Able to prioritise workload
-A full valid Driving Licence is essential
-5 A*-C GCSEs or equivalent qualifications, including Maths and English
-RYA Short Range Radio (VHF) certified would be advantageous
-IOSH Supervising Safely in Ports would be ideal
-Excellent verbal and written communication skills
