Applicants are invited to apply for the above vacancy within the Marine Department, based at Greenock Ocean Terminal. Travel may be required in this role.

Role Purpose: To facilitate the safe and efficient conduct of the navigation of vessels, which request the services of an authorised Pilot within the jurisdiction of Clydeport. To support the SMMO in providing marine services to customers at Clydeport as requested.

This role will include the following responsibilities:

  • Pilot vessels; with or without the use of tugs; within Clydeport's jurisdiction in accordance with the Marine Management Safe Systems and Standard Operating Procedures and as per Pilotage Directions
  • Prepare and agree passage plans to allow vessels to perform their operations and to leave safely upon completion
  • Assist, support and advise the Ship Masters in the safe navigation and pilotage of vessels, if the Marine Officer Pilot is not piloting the vessel
  • Develop effective working relationships with other Marine Officer Pilots/Cutter crew, GPCC/LPS officers, Marine and Terminal managers, tug crews and mooring service providers, working as part of a team to ensure operational requirements are met
  • Attend training courses, work alongside Senior Pilots and gain experience on larger vessels, for progression when the opportunity arises
  • To obtain first authorisation and progress to full Class 1 Pilot qualification within an agreed timescale
  • Applicants interested in this role should ideally possess the following skills and experience:
  • An IMO recognised Marine Qualification is essential, ideally a Master Mariner certificate
  • Piloting or ship handling experience would be advantageous, and/or possession of a local Pilot Exemption Certificate
  • A valid ENG1 Seafarer Medical Certificate
  • STCW 95 II/2 is desired with an ECDIS endorsement or equivalent
  • An understanding of ship manoeuvrability, ship handling and berthing is preferable
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A full valid Driving Licence is essential
