We are looking for a principal project manager with a broad range of experience in the maritime sector.

The job offers global opportunities to work on a range of projects – from the largest deep sea container terminals or reclamation projects in the Middle East, through to surveys, inspections and studies on facilities in the UK. It requires a technical background in maritime projects but an individual who has since developed their career in project management. The role will require you to apply project management processes, including financial resource and programme management and demonstrate knowledge and experience in a range of contract forms, applied particularly within an engineering consultancy. Particular experience in delivery of a particular maritime sector – be that container terminals, freight/roro terminals, oil and gas/energy terminals or bulk facilities – would be an advantage.

We need an individual with experience across a wide range of projects and clients and who can lead various stages of projects through planning and concept development, feasibility studies, detailed design, procurement and administration of construction contracts through to asset management and residual life assessment. You will manage project budgets, supervise staff and produce technical deliverables. It will be challenging, demanding, varied and offer fantastic opportunities for skill and career development.

Candidate Specification

You will be a chartered engineer with a leading professional institution. You should be able to manage design teams in delivery of projects, ranging from large and complex design and build (D&B) projects through to a programme of smaller projects. In particular we are looking for someone with experience of managing multi-disciplinary projects which combine teams with different skill sets often based in different geographic locations. Experience of delivery on design and build (D&B) projects is essential. A project management qualification would be an advantage.

You will ideally have the following attributes:

  • Chartered from a recognised industry body; a supplementary qualification from a project management institution would be an advantage
  • Demonstrable technical experience in the maritime sector
  • Experience in project management of design and build projects in the maritime sector
  • A solid understanding of project management processes within an engineering consultancy
  • An ability to form and lead teams
  • Demonstrable experience in setting and controlling project finances and programmes
  • Experience as a project manager in a range of consultancy contract forms, including in particular NEC and FIDIC
  • A background within a consulting engineering practice
  • UK and international experience
  • Flexibility to travel overseas for project work
