WA restructures port bodies

21 Feb 2012

Western Australia’s eight port authorities are to be restructured, with seven of the bodies consolidated into four regional port authorities from 2014.

The new regional authorities will be called the Kimberly Ports Authority, the Pilbara Ports Authority, the Mid-West Ports Authority and the Southern Ports Authority. Fremantle will remain a stand-alone port body.

The Western Australian Government has promised extensive consultation with port customers and industry.

The Shipping and Pilotage Act 1967 and the Port Authorities Act 1999 will need to be amended before the changes are bedded into place.
