Wanganui port decision awaited

23 Jan 2012

A decision on which of four short-listed companies will win the tender to operate Wanganui port is not expected to be made by the Wanganui District Council until about the middle of this year.

It is understood the port, which was reacquired by the council for NZ$2.75m (US$ 2.2m) in 2010, requires NZ$5m of repairs.

Currently operating at break-even, the port is regarded as having the potential to grow its business, particularly in the areas of mined ironsand and coastal fertiliser shipments.
