Impact of Europe’s transparency legislation unclear

The European Commission has put forward a directive to modernise public contracts, with an aim of improving transparency and ensure a level playing field.
While this ruling will definitely impact the ports industry, the European Sea Ports Organisation (ESPO) said it remains unsure exactly what the impact will be.
However, ESPO president, Patrick Verhoeven says he broadly supports the measure, although he wants port authorities to be able to select concessionaires based on their own marketing strategies, rather than on a rigid series of rules.
