Spanish ports increasingly unprofitable
05 Jan 2012
Liabilities of Spanish ports are expected to total €4.5bn ($5.9bn) in 2012, up from the €4.1bn reached in 2011.
Worse still, many ports are either already undertaking or are planning to go ahead with projects that some observers in the sector believe are "very dubiously profitable".
Several ports now have terminals that are practically empty of traffic, suggesting that port authorities will have serious financial problems in the near future.
