Liebherr and Grup TCB crane design
Ireland based container crane provider, Liebherr Container Cranes Ltd (LCC), and Barcelona based container terminal management company, Grup TCB, have designed a new ship-to-shore (STS) crane concept for finger pier applications.
The companies have created a new crane design, which has been tailor made for finger pier applications in the Port of Nemrut Bay,Turkey, where Grup TCB operates its container terminal TCEEGE.
This new double boom STS container crane, which has an outreach of 50m on either side, has been developed to allow two vessels to be handled at the same time on both sides of the pier, while at the same time improving existing traffic flow, safety and significantly increasing productivity rates per vessel.
Until now, the use of mobile harbour cranes has been necessary to service container vessels.
Pat O’Leary, managing director, Liebherr, said: “The double boom crane design was a unique engineering project in terms of innovation and scale. We were able to draw on the many years experience to help us deliver the optimum solution for the Port of Nemrut Bay.”
Each crane is fitted with a pair of 400kW hoist motors and crane-to-crane and crane-to-ship anti collision systems.
The 360m pier will be equipped with four double boom STS cranes in all, two of which have recently been commissioned and installed by Liebherr.
