Industry Database

Following July's crane incident at DP World Southampton which happened when the boom of a crane collapsed, trapping and seriously injuring the crane driver, Jay Squibb, the company says that Mr Squibb is "making positive steps toward recovery".

This was the second Morris crane with a boom extension to collapse. The other modified cranes were immediately suspended from operations, pending an investigation.

After the incident, DP World Southampton added: "Three Morris cranes of the same design as crane 6 remain suspended from operation pending thorough inspections and analysis. We have launched our own independent investigation into the accident and are also working with the Health & Safety Executive investigation team."
