Concerns over Salaverry port concession

In Peru, there is disquiet regarding the transparency surrounding the concession of the Port of Salaverry.

Local mayor, Félix Campaña, has complained that neither the National Port Authority nor the agency that promotes private investment, Proinversión, have published documents relating to the proposed investment.

“We only know that there is a $200m investment proposal, but this will be spent gradually and in line with the movement of traffic in the port,” said Mr Campaña.

Local press reports, suggest that the majority of the existing work force will only have their jobs guaranteed for two years, after which the most senior will be offered early retirement packages.

According to Mr Campaña, one of the few details pertaining to the concession that is in the public sector is that the concessionaire will occupy an area between the road that leads to the fishing harbour and where Enapu is located in the pre-port area.
