Besides this, some 3m tons of oil seeds are coming in to be processed into crude and refined vegetable oil, with meal and shot as by-products.
There are five crushers in the Netherlands that process the oilseed into crude vegetable oil. Most of this goes to the refinery industry. The by-product of the crush is meal and shot – an important raw material for the animal feed industry due to its high nutritive value. The Netherlands is second only to Germany as the most important European processor of oilseed.
Four of the six Dutch storage companies are located in the port: Vopak Vlaardingen, Koole Pernis, Maastank and Maassilo. Their joint storage capacity is 780,000 m
