The manpower required for conventional lashing of trailers on a typical North Sea freight ro-ro is 32. However, utilising the IPSI Trailer Trestle system this figure is reduced to just 10. With the high cost of port workers and seamen in northern Europe, the savings are significant, says TTS.
A new shiploader supplied by Techint for the Cia Vale do Rio Doce (CVRD) at Pier III Ponta da Madeira Terminal, Sao Luis, has satisfactorily completed the no-load tests and started operations. The shiploader built by the Brazilian manufacturer Confab, also part of Techint, has a capacity of 8000 tph iron ore and will be used to load vessels up to 200,000 DWT. It is the fourth shiploader ordered by CVRD to Techint Technologies for the Carajas Terminal.
