The Bojonegara project, to be implemented on the western tip of the island of Java, aims to reduce congestion at Tanjung Priok port in Jakarta.
Construction will begin in 2008, at the latest, with the port operational by 2010. A related project, Jakarta New Port, costing $1.7bn, is also to go-ahead, thereby reducing reliance on Singaporean transhipment traffic. It will have a capacity of up to 2m teu.
