Colombian dream for Moffatt & Nichol

Consultant Moffatt & Nichol is in thefinal stages of completing detailed design, construction drawings,technicalspecifications and bid documents for Phase I of a new containerterminal on theAguadulce Peninsulain Colombiafor ICTSI. Phase I includes extensive land reclamation, dredging of theberthsand turning basin to the existing access channel, and 600 meters of newwharf. The contract also includes construction of a new, 21 km accessroad, on sitehousing, administration buildings, a maintenance shop, a terminal firestationand an emergency power generation station. The facility will have anopeningthroughput capacity of 450,000 teu with a planned final capacity of1.2m teu,900 meters of quay with three berths, nine post-panamax quay cranes,automatedgate systems, inspection and screening areas, intelligent trafficcontrol, andstate-of-the-art management systems.

The V-TRAX automatically steers the container handling equipment down a virtual track along the runway using high-precision Differential GPS to locate the equipment and provide both the current position and heading. A twin antenna method allows the system to determine the heading before the equipment starts to move.
