Either a motorised cable reel can be installed on the RTG or a special conductor bar system provided. The best option depends on the terminal layout and the logistics concept, although both systems have proven to be reliable in different applications.The incentive to make the switch is that return on investment can be achieved within 12-18 months.
To date, the company has completed several projects in China and South Korea totalling 380 RTGs at more than 10 terminals using both systems.
Bigger terminals, said the company, tend to prefer the conductor bar solution. Smaller terminals that need more flexibility in their terminal layout and have less standardised container handling procedures invariably opt for the cable reel solution.
Conductix-Wampfler is now targeting terminals in Europe and the Americas, where operators are becoming increasingly aware of the need to improve air quality and drive down the operating costs of RTGs. This is a cheaper solution than swapping RTGs for RMGs and also allows terminals to retain the operating flexibility in retaining RTGs.
