The Port of Tacoma Commission has recently applauded the take up of a collaborative program to reduce emissions from trucks that serve the port – which includes putting together a list of trucking companies that meet the modern emission standards and helping those that dont, along with other efficiency strategies.
The port also recognised ocean carrier customers Evergreen, “K” Line, Maersk Line and Horizon Lines for voluntarily switching to cleaner-burning low-sulphur distillate fuel at berth.
Use of the cleaner fuel reduces sulphur dioxide emissions by 80% and cuts diesel particulates by up to 70%.
